...do the work of service to Christ and be built up in love as the church until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of the Son of God that we will be mature and healthy in Christ-likeness. (Ephesians 4:12-16)
The scriptures give several accounts of believers being called into the ministry of the church. The Apostle Paul writes in the book of Ephesians that we are to serve Christ and be built up in love as the church unto Christlikeness. First Corinthians is clear that by the same Spirit of every member is necessary for the Body of Christ to be healthy and to function properly. Every member is a minister, with a particular calling and a unique place in the body.
Ministry is defined as giving assistance or aid, sharing one’s time, resources and talent, or simply offering themselves in service. The ministry here at New Salem is designed to meet people at the point of their individual and collective needs. In order to accomplish God’s calling in our lives we need to utilize all of the various spiritual gifts, interests, abilities, personalities and experiences of all the members of our congregation. Every person who has been shown the grace of God in Jesus Christ should be encouraged to serve, become equipped with the necessary resources and be actively engaged in ministry.
Currently there are over 50 ministries active within the New Salem family. These ministries have served the members of this church, their families, and the local and the broader community for many years. But we must not stop here. There are so many unmet needs here that could benefit from your gift of service. There are so many unrealized dreams here, while there is too much untapped potential. There is a tremendous opportunity to use your particular and unique involvement. There is so much that God is able and willing to do here through us together. Won’t you come and be a part of our ministry team?
