Marie Ketly and Vital Pierre

And blessed be his glorious name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen. Psalm 72:19

May the peace of the Lord be with you. The Lord has kept us in awe, like He has done in the past, during this last quarter. Let us share with you the highlights of each of these last four months.

December 2005

From September to December, Bethel Church trained three football teams of children and young people. Victor, Onill and Xavier, three men of the church, trained the teams three times a week, offering a devotional before the training. From that group, we have ten (10) young people who started to come to Sunday school.

Last week, while Mrs. Emelina, a deacon from the church, was sharing the Word with a woman in the hospital, she asked Emelina what church she belonged to. The woman was surprised when she heard Bethel Church because her son, Donovan, one of our young people who accepted Christ during the football training. She testified of the great change that she has seen in his life since he started coming to church.

We praise God for the witness that each young person is giving of the power of God to their family and we know that the Lord will use them to bring their parents to the Lord. Please, continue to pray for these young people so they will stay connected with the Lord who has called them to abundant life.

January 2006

The first session of two weeks of intense class, of two-years Bible Training for leaders in the different Baptist Churches of the South Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua, was a dream come true. Tim Mott , a businessman in the pool business and a gifted Bible teacher of Dallas, Texas, who the Lord brought to us about four years ago and helped us to have the best swimming pool in Bluefields offered the training. From the pool business, the Lord is calling him to bring to people the living water of the Word of God to many people who are thirsty.

After the two weeks of training, Yesenia, a young woman from Zion Baptist Church , shared with Ketly of how some of the young adults who are working have taken two weeks out from their jobs and have paid someone else to cover these days. That has shown us their thirst to know more deeply the Word of God, which will bring new life to many lives who are hungry and thirsty.

The Lord is raising a new generation in the Baptist family, people with a great sense of commitment and dedication to the Word of God in order to share the Word with accuracy and clarity.

February 2006

It was a great experience to have Joel and Francisco, two seminarians from Bethel Church that are studying in the Baptist Seminary in Managua, offer to the congregation a short course in Chaplaincy during their vacation time.

While Joel and Francisco were in Managua , they had the opportunity to take a special course, out of their curriculum of regular courses, the course of Chaplaincy with Kristina Gutierrez, an ABC Missionary. Their internship at the Baptist Hospital in Managua helped them to see the great opportunity to share the love of God to people who are hurting.

They could not keep that experience for themselves. As soon as they arrived to Bluefields, they wanted to share that experience with the people in Bluefields. The Lord opened doors in the only hospital that serves the South Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua to start for the first time, a Chaplaincy Program in the Hospital. They started to serve as Chaplains alongside three people of Bethel ’s Church. The work continues in the hospital through them, touching people with His touch to heal the body, soul and mind in the name of Jesus Christ.

March 2006

At the beginning of March, we received a Work and Witness Team from Waynesburg College and First Baptist Church of Jefferson in Pennsylvania , led by Hannah Dorean , a volunteer who served in Bluefields for 6 months. She said:

“I am impressed and amazed at the progress Bethel has made in the one year that I have been gone. There have been many physical changes to the building and the landscape. The church really is a safe and beautiful refuge amid the poverty of Bluefields. However, there has also been progress of a more important kind – there has been growth in the life of the church community. The church is not content to be at a point where the projects they are currently working on are progressing smoothly. Already Bethel is looking ahead, excitedly preparing people to send as missionaries. As it was during my 6 months here, so it is now that I am most impressed and amazed by the community of the church, the way that they work together to further the Kingdom of God in Bluefields.”

The team laid blocks in the second floor on Safe Harbor , the home for the children. God’s willing, all blocks will be laid this week. Many children are already waiting to live in Safe Harbor and we are looking forward to see His hands touching the lives of many children, who will experience the transforming power of Jesus Christ.

Thank you so much for being part of what God is doing in Bluefields. May you continue to experience the awesome power of His love in your lives.

In Christ,

Vital and Ketly Pierre
